Waiting On God
We will set out in this study to show that the one true God is a God that requires patience. For patience is a defining attribute of His character. Being as such, He requires for us to become like Him and be patient just as He is. We must foster a willingness to wait upon God and not let our hearts stir with fear and worry.

Being “Patient and Waiting” on God are really “Code Words” for giving up control. Patience and Waiting are more like verbs, better applied to the idea of submission. If we can understand that this most precious exercise of our time is to build up within our own soul the ability to receive all of God Blessings, then we are well on our way to being joyful and hopeful as we wait for our Faithful Father God.

Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rain. (8) You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. (9) Don’t grumble, brothers, against one another, so that you won’t be judged. Behold, the judge stands at the door. (10) Take, brothers, for an example of suffering and of perseverance, the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. (11) Behold, we call them blessed who endured. Being patient with God is an act of love that makes you like the God of patience. Love God and your fellow man by being patient with them.

God Is Slow To Wrath

We should rejoice that God is so patient, and at times seems to take His time. If it was not for this Characteristic, we would all be consumed by His righteous anger and never experience His grace and mercy. What we must remember is that while we are waiting on God to come through, God is patiently working in the hearts of others to obey Him.

2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
Nehemiah 9:16-17 “But they and our fathers behaved proudly, hardened their neck, didn’t listen to your commandments, (17) and refused to obey. They weren’t mindful of your wonders that you did among them, but hardened their neck, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage. But you are a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and didn’t forsake them.”
Psalms 145:7-10 “They will utter the memory of your great goodness, and will sing of your righteousness. (8) Yahweh is gracious, merciful, slow to anger, and of great loving kindness. (9) Yahweh is good to all. His tender mercies are over all his works. (10) All your works will give thanks to you, Yahweh. Your saints will extol you.”
Joel 2:12-13 “Yet even now,” says Yahweh, “turn to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.” (13) Tear your heart, and not your garments, and turn to Yahweh, your God; for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and relents from sending calamity.”

We Are Also Told To Be Slow To Wrath

Again, we must act like God. Slow to be angry over injustice, refusing anger over any perceived delays from God. Longsuffering is the example God gives us.

James 1:19-20 “So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; (20) for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.”
Proverbs 14:29 “He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a quick temper displays folly.”

How fast is God really operating His will upon the earth? Let us do the math!
2 Peter 3:8 “But don’t forget this one thing, beloved, that one day with the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”

So, if I did my math right, and even if I did not, I think either way we will get the picture I am painting here. We are not waiting as long as it seems to us.

God is working exceptionally fast.
- There are 24 hours in a day. So, God’s day fits 24 hours into a 1000 year period.
- 1000 divided by 24 = 41.66666666666667 years.
- So each hour to God is roughly 41.6 years to us.
- That every 10 minutes to God is roughly 6.9 years. (41.6 divided by 6, as there is 60 minutes in the hour.)
- And every 5 minutes is 3.4 years. (6.9 divided by 2)
- With every minute being .69 years. (3.4 divided by 5)
- That means if you ask God for something and He answers you within 1 month earths time, the time that had passed to God was barely (ball park figure) 10 seconds in His time.

- PATIENCE: In The End, Builds Love For God As We Learn To Hope In Him.
Romans 5:2-5 “Through Him we also have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice on the hope of the glory of God. (3) And not only this, but we glory in afflictions also, knowing that afflictions work out patience, (4) and patience works out experience, and experience works out hope. (5) And hope does not make us ashamed, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit given to us.”

As we can clearly see from top to bottom, Patience is a defining Characteristic of God and His followers. In all situations, in all circumstances, our starting position is patient endurance for the God we love. We must give up control to God. In reality, Patience may be more accurately described as TRUST. A belief that God is in control, that He loves us, and in the end, God is working it out for our best interest.
