  • God Declared: Hosea 6:6-7 “For I desire mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.  (7)  But they, like Adam, have broken the covenant. They were unfaithful to me, there.”
  • Isaiah Declared: God did not want the Mosaic Law of Sacrifices, even though it was expedient. This is not written to Sodom and Gomorrah. God is saying Judah (Israel) is like those places relating to their sins. Like in Revelation 11:8 “Their dead bodies will be in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.”

Isaiah 1:10-21 “Hear Yahweh’s word, you rulers of Sodom! Listen to the law of our God, you people of Gomorrah!  (11)  “What are the multitude of your sacrifices to me?”, says Yahweh. “I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed animals. I don’t delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of male goats.  (12)  When you come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts?  (13)  Bring no more vain offerings. Incense is an abomination to me; new moons, Sabbaths, and convocations: I can’t stand evil assemblies.  (14)  My soul hates your New Moons and your appointed feasts. They are a burden to me. I am weary of bearing them.  (15)  When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you. Yes, when you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood.  (16)  Wash yourselves, make yourself clean. Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes. Cease to do evil.  (17)  Learn to do well. Seek justice. Relieve the oppressed. Judge the fatherless. Plead for the widow.”  (18)  “Come now, and let’s reason together,” says Yahweh: “Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.  (19)  If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land;  (20)  but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword; for the mouth of Yahweh has spoken it.”  (21)  How the faithful city has become a prostitute! She was full of justice; righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers.”

Psalms 40:5-8 “Many, Yahweh, my God, are the wonderful works which you have done, and your thoughts which are toward us. They can’t be declared back to you. If I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be counted.  (6)  Sacrifice and offering you didn’t desire. You have opened my ears. You have not required burnt offering and sin offering.  (7)  Then I said, “Behold, I have come. It is written about me in the book in the scroll.  (8)  I delight to do your will, my God. Yes, your law is within my heart.”

Psalms 51:15-16 “Lord, open my lips. My mouth shall declare your praise.  (16)  For you don’t delight in sacrifice, or else I would give it. You have no pleasure in burnt offering.

Matthew 9:13 “But you go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

Hebrews 10:1-9 “For the law, having a shadow of the good to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect those who draw near.  (2)  Or else wouldn’t they have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins?  (3)  But in those sacrifices there is a yearly reminder of sins.  (4)  For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins.  (5)  Therefore when he comes into the world, he says, “Sacrifice and offering you didn’t desire, but you prepared a body for me.  (6)  You had no pleasure in whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin.  (7)  Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come (in the scroll of the book it is written of me) to do your will, O God.’”  (8)  Previously saying, “Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you didn’t desire, neither had pleasure in them” (those which are offered according to the law),  (9)  then he has said, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He takes away the first, that he may establish the second,”

Matthew 27:50-51 “Jesus cried again with a loud voice, and yielded up his spirit.  (51)  Behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom. The earth quaked and the rocks were split.”

Colossians 2:13-14 “You were dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh. He made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,  (14)  wiping out the handwriting in ordinances which was against us; and he has taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross;”

John 1:29 “The next day, he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

1 John 4:9-10 “By this God’s love was revealed in us, that God has sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.  (10)  In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins.”

Hebrews 7:26-28  “For such a high priest was fitting for us: holy, guiltless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;  (27)  who doesn’t need, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices daily, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. For he did this once for all, when he offered up himself.  (28)  For the law appoints men as high priests who have weakness, but the word of the oath which came after the law appoints a Son forever who has been perfected.”

Hebrews 10:8-18  “Previously saying, “Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you didn’t desire, neither had pleasure in them” (those which are offered according to the law),  (9)  then he has said, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He takes away the first, that he may establish the second,  (10)  by which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.  (11)  Every priest indeed stands day by day serving and often offering the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins,  (12)  but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God;  (13)  from that time waiting until his enemies are made the footstool of his feet.  (14)  For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.  (15)  The Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying,  (16)  “This is the covenant that I will make with them: ‘After those days,’ says the Lord, ‘I will put my laws on their heart, I will also write them on their mind;’ ”then he says,  (17)  “I will remember their sins and their iniquities no more.”  (18)  Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.”

Romans 12:1-2  “Therefore I urge you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service.  (2)  Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.”

Mark 12:32-34 “The scribe said to him, “Truly, teacher, you have said well that he is one, and there is none other but he,  (33)  and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”  (34)  When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from God’s Kingdom.” No one dared ask him any question after that.”

Psalms 51:17 “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.”

Isaiah 57:15 “For thus says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also who is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.”

1 Samuel 15:22  “Samuel said, “Has Yahweh as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying Yahweh’s voice? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.”

John 14:21 “One who has my commandments, and keeps them, that person is one who loves me. One who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will reveal myself to him.”

Hebrews 10:16-18  “This is the covenant that I will make with them: ‘After those days,’ says the Lord, ‘I will put my laws on their heart, I will also write them on their mind;’” then he says,  (17)  “I will remember their sins and their iniquities no more.”  (18)  Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.”

Isaiah 1:16-20 “Wash yourselves, make yourself clean. (19)  If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land;  (20)  but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword; for the mouth of Yahweh has spoken it.”

James 1:27  “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit orphans and widows in their afflictions, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.”

John 4:20-24 “Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.”  (21)  Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour comes, when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, will you worship the Father.  (22)  You worship that which you don’t know. We worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Jews.  (23)  But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such to be his worshipers.  (24)  God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Hebrews 9:8-12 “The Holy Spirit is indicating this, that the way into the Holy Place wasn’t yet revealed while the first tabernacle was still standing;  (9)  which is a symbol of the present age, where gifts and sacrifices are offered that are incapable, concerning the conscience, of making the worshiper perfect;  (10)  being only (with meats and drinks and various washings) fleshly ordinances, imposed until a time of reformation.  (11)  But Christ having come as a high priest of the coming good things, through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation,  (12)  nor yet through the blood of goats and calves, but through his own blood, entered in once for all into the Holy Place, having obtained eternal redemption.”

Matthew 12:6 “But I tell you that one greater than the temple is here.”

John 2:19-21 “Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”  (20)  The Jews therefore said, “It took forty-six years to build this temple! Will you raise it up in three days?”  (21)  But he spoke of the temple of his body.”

Colossians 2:9 “For in him all the fullness of the Deity dwells bodily,”

1 Corinthians 3:16-17 “Don’t you know that you are a temple of God, and that God’s Spirit lives in you?  (17)  If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is holy, which you are.

2 Corinthians 6:16 “What agreement has a temple of God with idols? For you are a temple of the living God. Even as God said, “I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”

Ephesians 2:18-22 “For through him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.  (19)  So then you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God,  (20)  being built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the chief cornerstone;  (21)  in whom the whole building, fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord;  (22)  in whom you also are built together for a habitation of God in the Spirit.”

2 Corinthians 5:1-2  “For we know that if the earthly house of our tent is dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens.  (2)  For most certainly in this we groan, longing to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven;”

Hebrews 11:16 “But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.”

John 14:1-3 “Don’t let your heart be troubled. Believe in God. Believe also in me.  (2)  In my Father’s house are many homes. If it weren’t so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you.  (3)  If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and will receive you to myself; that where I am, you may be there also.”

Revelation 21:21-23 “And the twelve gates were twelve pearls. Respectively, each one of the gates was one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, as transparent glass.  (22)  And I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty is its temple, even the Lamb.  (23)  And the city had no need of the sun, nor of the moon, that they might shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it, and its lamp is the Lamb.”

1 Timothy 2:3-5  “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior;  (4)  who desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth.  (5)  For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,”

Hebrews 7:11-17  “So if perfection had in fact been possible through the Levitical priesthood – for on that basis the people received the law – what further need would there have been for another priest to arise, said to be in the order of Melchizedek and not in Aaron’s order?  (12)  For when the priesthood changes, a change in the law must come as well.  (13)  Yet the one these things are spoken about belongs to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever officiated at the altar.  (14)  For it is clear that our Lord is descended from Judah, yet Moses said nothing about priests in connection with that tribe.  (15)  And this is even clearer if another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek,  (16)  who has become a priest not by a legal regulation about physical descent but by the power of an indestructible life.  (17)  For here is the testimony about him: “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”

John 14:6 “Jesus replied, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Acts 4:11-12 “This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, that has become the cornerstone .  (12)  And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among people by which we must be saved.”

2 John 1:9 “Everyone transgressing and not abiding in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ, he has both the Father and the Son.”

1 John 2:23 “Everyone who denies the Son does not have the Father either. The person who confesses the Son has the Father also.”

1 Corinthians 16:22 “If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha.”

1 Peter 2:2-10  “And yearn like newborn infants for pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up to salvation,  (3)  if you have experienced the Lord’s kindness.  (4)  So as you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but chosen and precious in God’s sight,  (5)  you yourselves, as living stones, are built up as a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood and to offer spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.  (6)  For it says in scripture, “Look, I lay in Zion a stone, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and whoever believes in him will never be put to shame.”  (7)  So you who believe see his value, but for those who do not believe, the stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone ,  (8)  and a stumbling-stone and a rock to trip over. They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.  (9)  But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may proclaim the virtues of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.  (10)  You once were not a people, but now you are God’s people. You were shown no mercy, but now you have received mercy.”

Isaiah 66:1-3 “Yahweh says, “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build to me? Where will I rest?  (2)  For my hand has made all these things, and so all these things came to be,” says Yahweh: “but I will look to this man, even to he who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at my word.  (3)  He who kills an ox is as he who kills a man; he who sacrifices a lamb, as he who breaks a dog’s neck; he who offers an offering, as he who offers pig’s blood; he who burns frankincense, as he who blesses an idol. Yes, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations:”

2 John 1:6-11 “And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, as you heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.  (7)  For many deceivers have entered into the world, who do not confess Jesus Christ coming in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the anti-christ.  (8)  Look to yourselves, so that we may not lose those things which we worked out, but that we may receive a full reward.  (9)  Everyone transgressing and not abiding in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ, he has both the Father and the Son.  (10)  If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house, nor speak a greeting to him.  (11)  For he who speaks a greeting to him is partaker of his evil deeds.”

Proverbs 26:11 “As a dog that returns to his vomit, so is a fool who repeats his folly.”

Galatians 5:1-8 “Stand fast therefore in the liberty with which Christ has made us free, and do not again be held with the yoke of bondage.  (2)  Behold, I, Paul, say to you that if you are circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.  (3)  For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do all the Law,  (4)  you who are justified by Law are deprived of all effect from Christ; you fell from grace.  (5)  For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness out of faith.  (6)  For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any strength, but faith working through love.  (7)  You were running well. Who hindered you that you do not obey the truth?  (8)  This persuasion is not from Him who calls you.”

Hebrews 7:15-19 “This is yet more abundantly evident, if after the likeness of Melchizedek there arises another priest,  (16)  who has been made, not after the law of a fleshly commandment, but after the power of an endless life:  (17)  for it is testified, “You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.”  (18)  For there is an annulling of a foregoing commandment because of its weakness and uselessness  (19)  (for the law made nothing perfect), and a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.”

Hebrews 9:11-14 “But Christ having come as a high priest of the coming good things, through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation,  (12)  nor yet through the blood of goats and calves, but through his own blood, entered in once for all into the Holy Place, having obtained eternal redemption.  (13)  For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled, sanctify to the cleanness of the flesh:  (14)  how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without defect to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”

Hebrews 10:26-31 “Hebrews 10:26-31  For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more a sacrifice for sins,  (27)  but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which will devour the adversaries.  (28)  A man who disregards Moses’ law dies without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses.  (29)  How much worse punishment do you think he will be judged worthy of who has trodden underfoot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant with which he was sanctified an unholy thing, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?  (30)  For we know him who said, “Vengeance belongs to me,” says the Lord, “I will repay.” Again, “The Lord will judge his people.”  (31)  It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”
