Obedience Of Faith

-The Obedience Of Faith-

Obey The Real Jesus!

Obedience Of Faith

Focus Verse: 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12  “The arrival of the lawless one will be by Satan’s working with all kinds of miracles and signs and false wonders,  (10)  and with every kind of evil deception directed against those who are perishing, because they found no place in their hearts for the truth so as to be saved.  (11)  Consequently God sends on them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false.  (12)  And so all of them who have not believed the truth but have delighted in evil will be condemned.”

The obedience of faith is the focus of this teaching. This includes briefly how to handle those who refuse to obey God, proving their love for Jesus by their obedience. The reason this is such a big focal point in scripture and in this teaching is very simple. After the fall of Adam and Eve, humanity’s natural state is sin based. Our flesh compels us to compete against the spirit of God. We are inclined from birth to war against those things God values. Without God’s help, we will self destruct ourselves and everyone around us. Obedience and love are the surest proof of someone’s heart changing.

Matthew 7:17-20 “In the same way, every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit.  (18)  A good tree is not able to bear bad fruit, nor a bad tree to bear good fruit.  (19)  Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.  (20)  So then, you will recognize them by their fruit.”

Obedience Of Faith

As we see here, how people live and what they do proves who they really are. There are no separating actions from personality.

What you do is what you are, period.

Matthew 12:33 “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is known by its fruit.”

Without God, man can only discern Evil on their own. We cannot perceive good if God does not provide it for us. The ability to teach and know the difference of good and evil is a sign of a true follower of Christ. We can even say that we know our brothers and sisters in Christ by what they eat!

Hebrews 5:11-14 “On this topic we have much to say and it is difficult to explain, since you have become sluggish in hearing.  (12)  For though you should in fact be teachers by this time, you need someone to teach you the beginning elements of God’s utterances. You have gone back to needing milk, not solid food.  (13)  For everyone who lives on milk is inexperienced in the message of righteousness, because he is an infant.  (14)  But solid food is for the mature, whose perceptions are trained by practice to discern both good and evil.”

Obedience Of Faith

Man’s Natural State Is Born Into Sin & Rebellion.

Romans 7:14 “For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.”

So, as not to live in a perpetual state of rebellion, God made Adam and Eve leave the Garden of Eden.

Genesis 3:22 “And Jehovah God said, Behold, the man has become as one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put forth his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever,”

God has presented again to the children of Adam and Eve the same options: Good and Evil, Life or Death- just like He did with the tree in the garden.

Deuteronomy 30:15-19  “Behold, I have set before you today life and prosperity, and death and evil.  (16)  For I command you today to love Yahweh your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments, his statutes, and his ordinances, that you may live and multiply, and that Yahweh your God may bless you in the land where you go in to possess it.  (17)  But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;  (18)  I denounce to you today, that you will surely perish. You will not prolong your days in the land where you pass over the Jordan to go in to possess it.  (19)  I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Therefore choose life, that you may live, you and your descendants;  (20)  to love Yahweh your God, to obey his voice, and to cling to him; for he is your life, and the length of your days; that you may dwell in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”

Amos 5:13-15 “So the understanding ones shall keep silent in that time; for it is an evil time.  (14)  Seek good and not evil, that you may live; and so Jehovah, the God of Hosts, shall be with you, as you have spoken.  (15)  Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate. It may be that the Lord Jehovah of Hosts will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.”

Obedience Of Faith

We still see this in the New Testament.

1 Peter 3:10-12  “For, “He who would love life, and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit.  (11)  Let him turn away from evil, and do good. Let him seek peace, and pursue it.  (12)  For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears open to their prayer; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

Romans 12:21 “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

Obedience Of Faith

Yet, the fake Jesus and His followers have twisted the plain truth of God. Taking Obedience and Disobedience and have switched the truth for a lie.

Isaiah 5:20-21  “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!  (21)  Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!”

Obedience Of Faith

The Fake Jesus, as we know, is really Satan in disguise and wants to kill you. For you are made in God’s image. You are His child and you will inherit His kingdom. For this, Satan wants to murder you through disobedience to God.

Romans 2:3-8  “And do you think, whoever you are, when you judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself, that you will escape God’s judgment?  (4)  Or do you have contempt for the wealth of his kindness, forbearance, and patience, and yet do not know that God’s kindness leads you to repentance?  (5)  But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath for yourselves in the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment is revealed!  (6)  He will reward each one according to his works:  (7)  eternal life to those who by perseverance in good works seek glory and honor and immortality,  (8)  but wrath and anger to those who live in selfish ambition and do not obey the truth but follow unrighteousness.”

Ecclesiastes 12:14 “For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it is good, or whether evil.”

2 Corinthians 5:10  “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be paid back according to what he has done while in the body, whether good or evil.”

Matthew 12:35-37 “The good man out of his good treasure brings out good things, and the evil man out of his evil treasure brings out evil things.  (36)  I tell you that every idle word that men speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.  (37)  For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Obedience Of Faith

Deceived

We must resist the deception of the devil. We must abide by the clearly spoken words of God and Jesus in the Bible. Not get wrapped up in some brain twisting argument with the prince of lies.

1 John 1:8-10 “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  (9)  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  (10)  If we say that we haven’t sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”

A Person is being deceived if he is “a hearer and not a doer” of the word of God.

James 1:22-25 “But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves.  (23)  For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror;  (24)  for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.  (25)  But he who looks into the perfect law of freedom, and continues, not being a hearer who forgets, but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does.”

A Person is being deceived when he thinks he is “something when he is nothing.”

Galatians 6:3 “For if a man thinks himself to be something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.”

A Person is being deceived when he thinks he is wise with wisdom of this world.

1 Corinthians 3:18-20  “Let no one deceive himself. If anyone thinks that he is wise among you in this world, let him become a fool, that he may become wise.  (19)  For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He has taken the wise in their craftiness.”  (20)  And again, “The Lord knows the reasoning of the wise, that it is worthless.”

A Person is being deceived if they do not control their mouth

James 1:26 “If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless.”

A Person is being deceived if he thinks he will sow, and not reap what he sows.

Galatians 6:7-8 “Don’t be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.  (8)  For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.”

A Person is being deceived if he thinks the unrighteous will inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 “Or don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s Kingdom? Don’t be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals,  (10)  nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortionists, will inherit God’s Kingdom.”

A Person is being deceived if he thinks that contact with sin will have no effect on him.

1 Corinthians 15:33-34 “Don’t be deceived! “Evil companionships corrupt good morals.”  (34)  Wake up righteously, and don’t sin, for some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.”

A person is deceived when he believes the lies of the devil and not the clear spoken words of Jesus!

John 8:43-45 “Why don’t you understand my speech? Because you can’t hear my word.  (44)  You are of your father, the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn’t stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and the father of lies.  (45)  But because I tell the truth, you don’t believe me.”

Obedience Of Faith

Kingdom Of God Is A Kingdom Of Obedience

The Sons of Adam and the Daughters of Eve receive back again from God and Jesus the Kingdom once more. Since the real Jesus died and was raised from death, being the perfect sacrifice for sin. We have to opportunity to resist our sin nature and receive salvation. As children of God and citizens of His kingdom we must act and walk accordingly.

Colossians 1:13-14 “For He has delivered us from the power of darkness and has translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son;  (14)  in whom we have redemption through His blood, the remission of sins.”

Luke 17:20-21  “Being asked by the Pharisees when God’s Kingdom would come, he answered them, “God’s Kingdom doesn’t come with observation;  (21)  neither will they say, ‘Look, here!’ or, ‘Look, there!’ for behold, God’s Kingdom is within you.”

Luke 10:10-12  “And into whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you, going out into the streets say,  (11)  Even the dust of your city which clings to us, we wipe off against you. Yet be sure of this, that the kingdom of God has come near you.  (12)  But I say to you that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city.”

Obedience Of Faith

The Obedience Of Faith

Romans 16:25-27  “Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that had been kept secret for long ages,  (26)  but now is disclosed, and through the prophetic scriptures has been made known to all the nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith –  (27)  to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, be glory forever! Amen.”

Romans 1:5-6 “Through him we have received grace and our apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles on behalf of his name.  (6)  You also are among them, called to belong to Jesus Christ.”

Ephesians 2:8-10  “For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God;  (9)  it is not from works, so that no one can boast.  (10)  For we are his creative work, having been created in Christ Jesus for good works that God prepared beforehand so we can do them.”

James 2:26 “For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.”

Obedience Of Faith

Obey God

Acts 5:32 “We are His witnesses of these things; and so also is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”

It is the Holy Spirit that is the down payment and proof that you belong to God.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22  “Now he who establishes us with you in Christ, and anointed us, is God;  (22)  who also sealed us, and gave us the down payment of the Spirit in our hearts.”

No Obedience, No Spirit, NO Hope For Salvation- Period!

Romans 6:15-16 “What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under law, but under grace? May it never be!  (16)  Don’t you know that when you present yourselves as servants and obey someone, you are the servants of whomever you obey; whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness?”

Follow the Example Of Jesus, Obey God, And Obey Jesus For Salvation

Hebrews 5:7-10  “For Jesus, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard in that He feared,  (8)  though being a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.  (9)  And being perfected, He became the Author of eternal salvation to all those who obey Him,  (10)  being called by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek;”

2 Corinthians 10:4-6 “For the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds,  (5)  pulling down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought into the obedience of Christ;  (6)  and having readiness to avenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.”

Obedience Of Faith

Obey The Truth

2 Thessalonians 1:5-10  “For this is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God for which you also suffer,  (6)  since it is a righteous thing with God to repay tribulation to those who trouble you,  (7)  and to give rest with us to you who are troubled, at the revealing of the Lord Jesus from Heaven with the angels of His power,  (8)  in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God and who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ,  (9)  who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,  (10)  when He shall come to be glorified in His saints and to be admired in all those who believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that Day.”

1 Peter 1:22-23 “Purifying your souls in the obedience of the truth through the Spirit to unfeigned love of the brothers, love one another fervently out of a pure heart,  (23)  having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the living Word of God, and abiding forever.”

Obedience Of Faith

Keep The Commandments

1 John 5:1-3 “Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God. Whoever loves the Father also loves the child who is born of him.  (2)  By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments.  (3)  For this is loving God, that we keep his commandments. His commandments are not grievous.”

John 14:15-18 “If you love me, you will obey my commandments.  (16)  Then I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you forever –  (17)  the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, because he resides with you and will be in you.  (18)  “I will not abandon you as orphans, I will come to you.”

John 3:35-36 “The Father loves the Son and has placed all things under his authority.  (36)  The one who believes in the Son has eternal life. The one who rejects the Son will not see life, but God’s wrath remains on him.”

Obedience Of Faith

Worship God In Spirit And Truth

John 4:23-24  “But a time is coming – and now is here – when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such people to be his worshipers.  (24)  God is spirit, and the people who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

2 Timothy 4:2-4 “Preach the message, be ready whether it is convenient or not, reprove, rebuke, exhort with complete patience and instruction.  (3)  For there will be a time when people will not tolerate sound teaching. Instead, following their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves, because they have an insatiable curiosity to hear new things.  (4)  And they will turn away from hearing the truth, but on the other hand they will turn aside to myths.”

Galatians 1:6-9  “I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are following a different gospel –  (7)  not that there really is another gospel, but there are some who are disturbing you and wanting to distort the gospel of Christ.  (8)  But even if we (or an angel from heaven) should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be condemned to hell!  (9)  As we have said before, and now I say again, if anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, let him be condemned to hell!”

Obedience Of Faith

You Are Being Warned- Get Right & Obey God!

1 Peter 4:17 “For the time has come for the judgment to begin from the house of God. And if it first begins from us, what will be the end of those disobeying the gospel of God?”

Obedience Of Faith

  • Let’s First Cover The “Why”: UNITY-

Hebrews 10:22-27 “Let us draw near with a sincere heart in the assurance that faith brings, because we have had our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water.  (23)  And let us hold unwaveringly to the hope that we confess, for the one who made the promise is trustworthy.  (24)  And let us take thought of how to spur one another on to love and good works,  (25)  not abandoning our own meetings, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and even more so because you see the day drawing near.  (26)  For if we deliberately keep on sinning after receiving the knowledge of the truth, no further sacrifice for sins is left for us,  (27)  but only a certain fearful expectation of judgment and a fury of fire that will consume God’s enemies.”

Obedience Of Faith

  • Now We Will Cover The “Action” Powered By The “Why”: Don’t Accept Them-

2 John 1:8-11 “Look to yourselves, so that we may not lose those things which we worked out, but that we may receive a full reward.  (9)  Everyone transgressing and not abiding in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ, he has both the Father and the Son.  (10)  If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house, nor speak a greeting to him.  (11)  For he who speaks a greeting to him is partaker of his evil deeds.”

Obedience Of Faith

  • Cast Out The Unfaithful.

1 Corinthians 5:9-13  “I did write to you in the epistle, not to keep company with whoremongers—  (10)  and not certainly with the whoremongers of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, seeing ye ought then to go forth out of the world—  (11)  and now, I did write to you not to keep company with him , if any one, being named a brother, may be a whoremonger, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner—with such a one not even to eat together;  (12)  for what have I also those without to judge? those within do ye not judge?  (13)  and those without God doth judge; and put ye away the evil from among yourselves.”

2 Thessalonians 3:13-15 “But you, brothers, don’t be weary in doing what is right. If any man doesn’t obey our word in this letter, note that man, that you have no company with him, to the end that he may be ashamed. Don’t count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.”

2 Timothy 3:1-5 “But know this, that in the last days, grievous times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, not lovers of good, traitors, headstrong, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God; holding a form of godliness, but having denied its power. Turn away from these, also.”

Obedience Of Faith

  • Jesus Says To Cut Them Off.

Mark 9:42-47 “If anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a huge millstone tied around his neck and to be thrown into the sea.  (43)  If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off! It is better for you to enter into life crippled than to have two hands and go into hell, to the unquenchable fire.  (45)  If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off! It is better to enter life lame than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.  (47)  If your eye causes you to sin, tear it out! It is better to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,

Matthew 5:29-30 “If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away! It is better to lose one of your members than to have your whole body thrown into hell.  (30)  If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away! It is better to lose one of your members than to have your whole body go into hell.”

Obedience Of Faith

  • Don’t Be Unequally Yoked With The Disobedient.

Ephesians 5:11 “Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.”

2 Corinthians 6:14-18 “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers; for what fellowship does righteousness have with lawlessness? And what partnership does light have with darkness?  (15)  And what agreement does Christ have with Belial? Or what part does a believer have with an unbeliever?  (16)  And what agreement does a temple of God have with idols? For you are the temple of the living God, as God has said, “I will dwell in them and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”  (17)  Therefore come out from among them and be separated, says the Lord, and do not touch the unclean thing. And I will receive you  (18)  and I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

Revelation 18:4-6  “Then I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, so you will not take part in her sins and so you will not receive her plagues,  (5)  because her sins have piled up all the way to heaven and God has remembered her crimes.  (6)  Repay her the same way she repaid others; pay her back double corresponding to her deeds. In the cup she mixed, mix double the amount for her.”

“From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, Repent! For the kingdom of Heaven is at hand.” Matthew 4:17
