Sin is lawlessness.  (5)  You know that he was revealed to take away our sins, and in him is no sin.  (6)  Whoever remains in him doesn’t sin. Whoever sins hasn’t seen him and doesn’t know him.  (7)  Little children, let no one lead you astray. He who does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.  (8)  He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. To this end the Son of God was revealed: that he might destroy the works of the devil.  (9)  Whoever is born of God doesn’t commit sin, because his seed remains in him; and he can’t sin, because he is born of God.  (10)  In this the children of God are revealed, and the children of the devil. I will pull down my barns, and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.  (19)  I will tell my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Go, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me, taking up the cross.”  (22)  But his face fell at that saying, and he went away sorrowful, for he was one who had great possessions.  (23)  Jesus looked around, and said to his disciples, “How difficult it is for those who have riches to enter into God’s Kingdom!”

You are God’s farming, God’s building.  (10)  According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another builds on it. But let each man be careful how he builds on it.  (11)  For no one can lay any other foundation than that which has been laid, which is Jesus Christ.  (12)  But if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay, or stubble;  (13)  each man’s work will be revealed. For the Day will declare it, because it is revealed in fire; and the fire itself will test what sort of work each man’s work is.  (14)  If any man’s work remains which he built on it, he will receive a reward.  (15)  If any man’s work is burned, he will suffer loss, but he himself will be saved, but as through fire.

You cannot serve God and money.”

For the pillars of the earth are Yahweh’s. He has set the world on them.  (9)  He will keep the feet of his holy ones, but the wicked shall be put to silence in darkness; for no man shall prevail by strength.  (10)  Those who strive with Yahweh shall be broken to pieces. Isn’t life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  (26)  See the birds of the sky, that they don’t sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you of much more value than they?  (27)  “Which of you, by being anxious, can add one moment to his lifespan?  (28)  Why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They don’t toil, neither do they spin,  (29)  yet I tell you that even Solomon in all his glory was not dressed like one of these.  (30)  But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today exists, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, won’t he much more clothe you, you of little faith?  (31)  “Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’, ‘What will we drink?’ or, ‘With what will we be clothed?’  (32)  For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.  (33)  But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.  (34)  Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.”

1 Timothy 6:6-10 “But godliness with contentment is great gain.  (7)  For we brought nothing into the world, and we certainly can’t carry anything out.  (8)  But having food and clothing, we will be content with that.  (9)  But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as drown men in ruin and destruction.  (10)  For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. I wish you were cold or hot.  (16)  So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will vomit you out of my mouth.  (17)  Because you say, ‘I am rich, and have gotten riches, and have need of nothing;’ and don’t know that you are the wretched one, miserable, poor, blind, and naked;  (18)  I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, that you may become rich; and white garments, that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes, that you may see.  (19)  As many as I love, I reprove and chasten. Be zealous therefore, and repent.”
