A Time To Dance

With heavenly dancing, we can use our entire body and being to Praise and Worship God.  Some people teaching the doctrines and commandments of men (Matthew 15:9) tend to throw the baby out with the bath water. Their legitimate concerns about inappropriate dancing (Club dancing, Bumping and Grinding, etc.) has caused a knee –jerk reaction, as this has prompted many teachers to falsely assert that ALL dancing is wrong. When people leave their own personal points of view out of it, and seek a “thus saith the Lord” view, then they find something totally different.

Biblical dancing is closer to square or circle dancing, when men would usually dance with men, and women with women, or you could dance by yourself. When mentioned in the Bible, “dancing” usually translates as circle dancing or skipping and jumping. For personal dancing, it would be like an ecstatic joyful seizure of the entire body. Imagine being told that you have been given a million dollars- you would jump for joy! So, it’s kind of like that. That’s not to dismiss more modern appropriate dancing like ballet, etc.

Some good basic common sense guidelines for public dancing are: 1) don’t do anything that would cause people to lust after you, 2) Leave enough room for the Holy Ghost, and 3) Don’t dance to bring attention to yourself, but to glorify God or the person being honored.

Always Rejoice, Yet Abstain From The Appearance Of Evil.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 “Rejoice always.  (17)  Pray without ceasing.  (18)  In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.  (19)  Don’t quench the Spirit.  (20)  Don’t despise prophesies.  (21)  Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good.  (22)  Abstain from every form of evil.”

Be Mindful Of Those Who Have A Weaker Conscience Before The Lord.

1 Corinthians 8:9 “But be careful that by no means does this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to the weak.”

• Dancing for The Lord

Psalms 149:2-3 “Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: let the children of Zion be joyful in their King. Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.”

Psalms 150:3-6 With Loud Music And Dancing In His Sanctuary-The Church.

“Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let everything that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.”

Ecclesiastes 3:4 “A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;”

2 Samuel 6:14-16 “And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod. So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet. And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.”

2 Samuel 6:21 “And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the LORD.”

Exodus 15:18-21 “The LORD shall reign forever and ever. For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the LORD brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea. And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.”

Psalms 30:10-12 “Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper. Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee forever.”

Jeremiah 31:12-14 “Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the LORD, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all. Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow. And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the LORD.”

Judges 11:34 “And Jephthah came to Mizpeh unto his house, and, behold, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she was his only child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter.”

1 Samuel 18:6  “And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of music.”

Jeremiah 31:3-4 “The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn thee. Again I will build thee, and thou will be built, O virgin of Israel: you will again be adorned with thy tabrets, and will go forth in the dances of them that make merry.”

YOU MUST OBEY TO UNLOCK THE POWER

Praise is a weapon only if it’s backed by obedience. God does not desire your praise and worship while you’re still in rebellion. I am not talking about perfection, just that you are not willfully continuing on in your sin. Thus meaning, that you have turned from them and are actively denying your flesh to please God, seeking His forgiveness.
